Syfy Imagine Greater? or Worse?

Scyfy Imagine Greater?  I’d move more towards imagine worse! (At least when it comes to movies) I will not lie when I say I enjoy some of the T.V. shows that have appeared on that channel (Battlestar Galactica, Stargate: Atlantis etc.) but a lot of others just seem hokey, non-entertaining and not well written (Painkiller Jane, Flash Gordon), and you know it’s a flop when it’s been dropped quicker than a Sunday morning cartoon.

I, like most people, every so often enjoy watching the crappy movie, but my patience wears thin when I run through the T.V. channels and come across the Syfy channel to see yet another all day marathon of absolutely terrible and ridiculous movies about some natural disasters threatening to destroy the world….again. How many movies can there be about an asteroid hitting the earth, a killer storm, volcanoes, earthquake or ice quake and even a “fire serpent”.  Those movies aren’t even the tip of the iceberg; if you go on the Syfy channel and look at their “Original” movies you will see lists! That’s right lists of increasingly bad titles and poorly acted movies. Some of the titles and/or stories aren’t even original (ex. Battle of L.A., Almighty Thor, Children of the Corn, Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud, Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, Highlander: The Source, etc.). All Syfy has done is taken a story that has been done once, twice or beaten to death and done their own little spin on it.

Can you imagine what would happen if the people at Syfy actually came up with more than one original idea for a movie in a year? How about one that takes more than a couple years to be produced? Have better writers? Or a movie that they spend more than a $100 when doing the computer generated graphics? Because I sure as hell can’t.  I can pay a computer animation student at the local art institute $50, give him a 6 pack and buy him a sandwich and within a day I bet he can do better computer graphics than any of the dummies at Syfy could. How could you Thomas Jane?

I refuse to waste my valuable time watching any of the movies on that channel. The issue is that no matter what, as long as people watch them, Syfy will continue to keep churning them out of the crap factory.  This is my un-professional opinion, but I have a feeling there are others out there that share it.
