Woke up to good news today, felt like a little kid on Christmas morning when I saw that there was a new poster released for the movie Prometheus directed by Ridley Scott.  This is definitely a teaser for me, especially since there hasn’t been an official trailer released for the movie yet, trust me I’ve looked all I’ve been able to find are the crappy fan made trailers which are basically slide shows with screen shots of the movie. Why oh why do must you torture me Ridley Scott! Well for now the screen shots will have to do. For those who’ve been in a cave or been living under a rock, here’s what we know about the movie; the storyline is a team of explorers discover an ‘Alien’ craft that may hold a clue to origins of mankind on earth. This leads them to the corners of the universe and must fight a battle to save the future of the human race (which is more or less the basic storyline of any alien/sci-fi movie). So obviously that leaves us very little to go with. In April of 2010, MTV had an interview with Mr. Scott about the his “Alien Prequel”, he satisfied my unyielding nerdy curiosity by talking a little about the plot and the creation of new aliens;

“It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley]. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair. Remember that? And our man [Tom Skerritt as Captain Dallas] climbs up and says “There’s been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?” I’m basically explaining who the space jockeys were”

“I think, I have to design — or redesign — earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in “Alien,” which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don’t want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out. (Giger’s) still around. Once I get more serious and get going, and the big wheels start turning, we’ll certainly talk. And maybe we’ll come up with something completely different.”

 There were some rumors spreading around saying that Prometheus wasn’t going to be a prequel for the first Alien movie. How anyone could think that especially after seeing the screens shots, the posters and reading the interviews of Ridley Scott is beyond me. Another highlight regarding the movie is the cast list, several of them you might recognize such as Charlize Theron (Hancock 2008), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class 2011), Patrick Wilson (The A-Team 2010), Idris Elba (Thor 2011) and Guy Pearce (The Kings Speech 2010) amongst others. With such a talented and versatile cast as well as a Legendary Director I do not see at this point how this movie could fail. I do ask one thing, it’s a request I’ve made in a few of my previous articles…please stay away from the dark path of 3-D.

    Cannot wait for this film. This is going to be an expensive year in terms of purchasing movie tickets.
